RED DEER UNDER 10 YEARS OLD ARE BANNED FOR HUNTING
The Director of SCDP DP, Eng. Ivan Nedkov, has issued an order prohibiting the hunting of red deer under the age of 10 years. The order was provoked by a noticeable deterioration of quality trophies in Bulgaria. Without ignoring poaching factors, the Director had spotted the negative effect of the organized hunting tourism, where in the quest for success at any cost middle aged deer with good trophy characteristics were allowed for hunting. This deprives them of the opportunity to fully develop their trophy potential and to breed quality in generations to come.
Besides the prohibition in the same order Mr. Nedkov determines the period from 21 Oct. to 30 Oct. 2015 for public access for those who would like to see the harvested 2015 season red deer trophies. This will allow, for the first time, the result of the hunting season to be displayed in public. This gives an opportunity for the professional hunters to evaluate the over all performance of the season, as well as to analyze errors and positive trends. This is of particular importance for hunting guides who will be able clearly establish where they are compared to the average population of red deer in Northern Central State Enterprise.
