THE WOLF IN BULGARIA IS NOT AMONG THE EXTINCT SPECIES

“The wolf in Bulgariais not considered to be an endangered species and this conclusion should be included in the Wolf Action Plan in Bulgaria”, stated the Director of SCDP - eng. Ivan Nedkov during the public debate that took place in Gabrovo.

It was attended by representatives of stakeholders in the region: The Union of Hunters and Fishermen in Bulgaria, LRS “Chardafon”- Gabrovo and “Sokol”- Veliko Tarnovo, The Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water (RIEW) - Pleven, Directorate of National Park "Central Balkan", Breeding Association for local sheep breeders.

The plan submitted to the discussion as "a draft copy", was prepared by a workshop, including representatives of all institutions and stakeholders (MEW, RIEW, EFA, RFA, DGS, HAA, research institutes, NGOs, breeders). Mrs. Elena Tsingarska - coordinator of Wildlife Society "Balkans" briefly presented the plan. She underlined that its vision is to increase the understanding and the commitment to the wolves and also to make sure that there will be proper conditions for the species to have a vibrant population inBulgariain the future, while working to minimize conflict between wolves and people. "
